Remove PDF Metadata strips the hidden details stored inside a PDF: the author's name, title, subject, keywords, the software that made it, and the created and last-changed dates. A consultant might clean a report before it goes to a client, and a council might clean documents before posting them on its website.
Add your PDF from your device, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, up to 260 MB. The tool reads the file, lists what it found under Found in this PDF, and warns you if it shows details such as an author's name. Press Remove metadata and the summary tells you what was taken out. Download the clean copy.
The list can include Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Made with (the app that created the file), Producer, the Created and Last changed dates, and XMP data, a block of hidden information some programs add.
Anyone who opens the file's properties can see these details. They can reveal the staff member who drafted a document, an old working title, or the fact that a file was last touched two years ago.
Before publishing a PDF on a website, sending a tender, or passing on a document drafted from a template with someone else's name in it. It is also tidy practice before submitting work to a portal that displays file properties. The pages themselves are not touched, so the document looks just as it did.
