Compress PDF reduces PDF size so a scanned application fits under a portal's upload limit, or a photo-heavy brochure gets past a 25 MB email cap. Pick how much to compress, and compress several PDFs at once if you need to.
Drop your PDF on the page or choose it from Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. Add more files if you have a batch. Pick a level: Recommended (small and sharp, images at 150 dpi), Extreme (smallest, 72 dpi) or Light (best quality, 300 dpi). Press Compress PDF. You'll see the old and new size and the percentage saved. Download the file, rename it, send it on WhatsApp, or press 'Continue with this file' to merge or sign it.
A visa applicant gets a scanned bank statement under a 2 MB upload limit. A marketing team shrinks a 40 MB brochure so it can go out by email. A student under a 10 MB coursework portal limit compresses a report full of screenshots. An accounts clerk makes a year of scanned receipts easier to store.
It depends on what's inside. Scanned pages and photos are where the size lives, so a scanned PDF often shrinks by half or more, and the tool flags scans when you add them. A text-only PDF is already compact and won't shrink much.
If a file is already small, under about 300 kB, you'll get a note that there may be little to save. And if a PDF can't get smaller without losing quality, the original is kept rather than handing you a worse copy.
Recommended suits almost everything you send by email or upload to a form. Use Extreme when a portal has a strict limit and the document only needs to be readable on screen. Use Light for anything that will be printed, such as a brochure or a thesis.
For print or long-term records, keep an uncompressed master copy and compress a separate version for sharing.
