A free online PDF editor that works like Word

HuntPDF's online PDF editor lets you edit PDF text right on the page — no software to install, no account, and no watermark. Upload a PDF or a Word document, then edit the text like you would in a word processor: change wording, fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italic, alignment and lists. When you're done, download your document as a clean PDF. Any file you send to our servers is deleted after processing.

Sign, redact and annotate PDFs

Beyond text, you can add a signature by drawing it or uploading a signature image, black out sensitive content with the redact tool, highlight and draw on the page, insert images, and erase anything you add. Everything is baked into the final PDF when you download.

Organize PDF pages

Reorder, rotate and delete pages, then export the organized PDF. For dedicated conversions, try PDF to Word, Word to PDF, or the full PDF Converter.

PDF Editor lets you change a PDF in your browser: edit existing text, add new text, images and signatures, highlight, draw, white out mistakes and fill in forms. A freelancer can correct a date on an invoice without the original Word file, and a landlord can sign and date a tenancy renewal before sending it back.

How to use the PDF Editor

Open your PDF in the editor and pick a tool from the toolbar along the top. Edit text lets you click existing words and change them; Add text places new text anywhere on the page. Page thumbnails down the side let you jump around a long file. When you are finished, export the PDF and download it.

When to use PDF Editor

It covers the small jobs that come up every week: fixing a typo in a flyer, filling in a form that has no clickable fields, adding a company logo, striking through an old price, or putting a signature on the last page of an agreement.

Because the tools sit together, you can do several of these to the same file without downloading and re-uploading between separate tools.

What the PDF editor toolbar includes

Text tools with font, size, colour, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and alignment. Markup tools for freehand drawing, highlighting, rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows and links. Whiteout covers content with white, and Redact covers it with black.

For forms you can add text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio buttons. Sign lets you draw a signature or upload an image of one, and Image places a logo or photo. You can also insert a blank page or duplicate a page, and Undo is always in reach.

Editing existing text vs adding new text

Edit text works on PDFs that contain real text, such as files exported from Word or an accounting package. A scanned page is a picture, so there is no text to click; run it through OCR PDF first, then open it in the editor.

Adding new text works on any page, scanned or not, which is how most people fill in paper-style forms. For whole-document jobs the dedicated tools are quicker: Merge PDF to join files, Organize PDF to reorder pages, Compress PDF to cut the size.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit existing text with the PDF Editor?
Yes, on text-based PDFs. Choose Edit text and click the words you want to change. Scanned pages need OCR PDF first, since they hold a picture of text rather than text.
Can I add a signature in the PDF Editor?
Yes. Use Sign to draw your signature with a mouse or finger, or upload a photo of your handwritten one, then place and resize it on the page.
Can I fill in a PDF form that has no fields?
Yes. Use Add text to type anywhere on the page, or build your own text fields, checkboxes and dropdowns with the form tools.
How do I hide something on a page?
Whiteout covers it with a white box, which suits a wrong phone number on a flyer. Redact covers it with a black box, the usual choice for account numbers and personal details.
Can I add pages?
You can insert a blank page at any point or duplicate an existing page, for example to add a notes page at the end of a handout.
Do I need an account to use the PDF Editor?
No sign-up is needed. Open the editor, load your PDF and start editing.
Can I change the font and colour of text?
Yes. Text you add can take a different font, any size, any colour, plus bold, italic, underline or strikethrough. There are also buttons to switch text to UPPERCASE, lowercase or Title Case.
