How to Merge, Compress, Sign and Make PDFs on iPhone and Android

Phones are now where many PDFs arrive and leave: a lease by email, a form from school, a portal that only accepts PDF. You can handle the common jobs right in Safari or Chrome on your phone, with no app to install and no account. This guide covers the five jobs people ask about most, and where the files end up on iPhone and Android.

Before you start: where your files are

On an iPhone or iPad, PDFs you download from email or the web usually sit in the Files app, under Downloads or iCloud Drive. When a HuntPDF page asks for a file, tap to choose and pick Browse to reach them; photos are under Photo Library. On Android, files are in the Files app (or My Files on Samsung phones), usually in Downloads, and Google Drive is offered in the same picker.

When a tool finishes, the result downloads like any other file. On iPhone it appears in Files, in Downloads; on Android it appears in Downloads and in the notification shade.

Merge PDFs on your phone

Open Merge PDF, tap to add files and choose all the PDFs you want to combine. Drag them into the right order (cover letter first, appendices last), then tap merge. Each file can be up to 260 MB, and you get one PDF to download and send.

Make a PDF smaller

Email apps and upload portals often stop at 10 MB, 5 MB or even 2 MB. Open Compress PDF, choose the file and pick a compression level; scanned and photo-heavy PDFs shrink the most. If the result is still too big, compress again at a stronger level, or split the document into parts with Split PDF.

Sign a PDF with your finger

Open Sign PDF, choose the document, and draw your signature with your finger; it usually looks more natural on a phone than with a mouse. Place it on the signature line, pinch to zoom so it sits neatly, add the date if the document asks for it, and download. You can send the signed copy straight on from the result screen.

Turn photos of paper into one PDF

For a signed form, receipts or a handwritten letter, photograph each page flat, from directly above, in good light. Open Scan to PDF (or JPG to PDF for photos you already have), add the pictures in page order and choose One PDF. iPhone HEIC photos are accepted as they are. If the PDF is large, send it through Compress PDF before uploading it.

The short version: On a phone, open the tool in Safari or Chrome, pick the file from Files or Photos, and the result lands in Downloads. Merge, compress, sign and photos-to-PDF all work with no app.
